Beurskens began studying law at the University of Düsseldorf in 1995, which he completed in 1999 with the first state examination in law. He also studied computer science with a minor in business administration at the "Fern-Universität Hagen". After the second state examination in law in September 2003, he became a research assistant at Ulrich Noack in 2004, where he was awarded a Dr. iur. was awarded a doctorate. In 2013 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on private self-help. In 2015 he accepted a position at the University of Bonn. On April 1, 2018, Beurskens accepted an offer for a W3-professorship at the University of Passau.
